Driving home tonight, Christina Aguilera’s utter bop Can’t Hold Us Down popped onto my shuffle and I was inspired. Having recently celebrated International Women’s Day (for any dude’s reading this your day is Nov 19th) I thought it was high time to discuss us girls and how fucking awesome we are. Because we ladies, are fucking amazing.
First of all, let’s talk about girls supporting girls. The famous phrase “There is a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women” springs to mind here. Why as women do we feel the need to tear each other down when we see each other succeed or we are happy? Fuck that shit, we should be raising each other up. We are pitted against enough in this world without fighting each other.
This is why I jump on Instagram every now and again and go on kind comment sprees. I sprinkle kindness like it’s glitter over photos of amazing women around the world. I let them know they slay. I let them know they are fierce. I let them know they are taking on the world and I am in awe of them. I don’t know these women personally but they need to know their photos inspire me.
I’m not saying with this piece you have to like every lady you meet. Not at all. However I am saying you can walk through this life with dignity and grace. Just because you don’t like someone, it doesn’t mean you have to make negative comments. Just let them live their lives and you live yours. You don’t have to connect with them.
Recently there has been a lot of chat about guys with BDE (big dick energy) but what about us ladies? Now I’ve taken this one from my girl Alice; girls we have TCE. What is TCE I hear you cry? Tight Coochie Energy baby. This is something we should all adopt and I’m glad Alice made me add this into my daily mantra. We are the shit. Baby girl you don’t need to grow some balls, you need to adjust your fucking crown; throw down that tight coochie energy and remind them who the fuck they are dealing with.
We should be adjusting each others crowns in the background. We don’t need to make a song and dance of it. Lifting and supporting the women around us without ever making a sound about doing it. Don’t do it because you have to, do it because you want to. If a women in your life falls, wipe them tears, fix her lipstick and help her become the bad bitch she was made to be once again.
One example of this is drunk girls in toilets. LOOK HOW WE TREAT EACH OTHER IN THERE. You need a hair tie, we got you. You need a tampon, baby girl I got 8 types – what do you need? Your boyfriend making you cry? 8 of us will rally around you, tell you to dump his ass and fix your mascara because baby girl he ain’t worth shit. Now this my girls is how we should be treating each other daily. Put that salty and bitter shit aside, be that girl in that club toilet who let you borrow her lipstick because she just knows it’s your perfect colour.
Remember, you are a fucking shark. Do sharks bitch about another sharks? No. They’re up early, biting stuff, chasing shit, being scary – reminding everyone they’re a fucking shark. You my darling, are a fucking shark.
Stand up for what you believe in. Stand up for what is right. Stand up when you have been wronged. Stand up and just be counted for what you know is right. Make your own herstory. Your voice is loud lady, even when you think it’s not. Don’t let anyone treat you like a door mat because you are far from it. You are fucking strong. You are fucking powerful. You are inspiring. You are incredible.
Never be afraid to speak out. I know it can be scary, I know it can be worrisome. You have the power to change the world. Never, ever forget that.
I’m grateful to the women I know for fixing my crown, supporting me and loving me without ever complaining. Who don’t question why I need help, they just help. Just as I always will for them.
I am grateful for the women who raised me. My mother and my grandmothers who honestly are some of the strongest women I know and had the honour of knowing.
I am grateful for the women in my family. Mothers, sisters, cousins and aunties. The women who support me because they want to, not just because we are blood.
I am grateful for the women who came before me. The ones who laid their lives down so I could have the right to vote. The women who had some of the most incredibly world changing scientific discoveries that advanced medicine helping me to stay healthy. The women who changed the world we take for granted everyday.
I am grateful for the women who I don’t know. The ones I see on the street doing their fucking best. The ones who lipgloss looks poppin’. The ones who take a second to tell me my makeup is fierce. The ones who raise their babies and take on the world.
Here’s to the mothers. The hustlers. The grafters. The friends. The work colleagues. Here’s to every women out there. I support you. Not just now but every single fucking day going forward.
Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we fucking raise them.
Now power up your day fellow powerful fucking women. Listen to Christina.
